Hello, and welcome to my page!
Here’s a list of my articles and stories. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
In 1904, The Explorers’ Club was founded by Henry Collins Walsh to “unite explorers in the bonds of good fellowship and to promote the work of exploration by every means in its power.”
The club now boasts over 3500 members, and honorary members have included such prestigious individuals as Theodore Roosevelt, Prince Philip and Walter Cronkite.
The club headquarters is in New York City, and their annual dinner (referred to as ECAD) is a grand event, traditionally held at the Waldorf Astoria.
The ECAD is famous for featuring exotic menu items… which often seemed to have been chosen primarily for…
We need to all give ourselves a break as we don our summer outfits and look in the mirror. Traditionally, winter is a time when our bodies crave more carbs, more sleep, and less activity. It’s something we all deal with every spring, as we pull out those summer clothes and pack away our parkas.
Think of 2020 as a year-long winter. …
“I have a dog,” I said, on my second date with Jake.
We had covered the topics of age, careers, marital history and favorite foods during the first date, and now we were getting into the nitty-gritty.
It was this last one that had prompted me to mention Mozart, my dog. I’d noticed Jake had seemed pleased when I’d answered, “No kids.”
Smiling widely, he had said, “Me neither! Too much responsibility. I like to be able to drop everything and travel on a whim.”
I joined Medium on April 16, and I love this platform!
Medium is a great community. I’m always finding new writers to follow, and there’s a constant array of interesting articles to read, depending on my mood at the moment. I’ve done OK, 80% curation rate, and earned $41.87 within 35 days (on Medium). I’m hopeful that will increase.
Soon after joining, I found another site that would reward me for my writing. I was pleasantly surprised with the results, after little more than two weeks.
I joined Vocal Media on May 3rd, after finding out you can just re-post…
Beach season is in full swing! You’ve been dreaming of blue skies and sparkling waves, your toes in the sand, and the sun on your skin for way too long! We’ve finally shaken off the worst year in history, and it’s time to celebrate with family and friends! As you pack your beach bag, there are a few things to add, in the event of a jellyfish sting.
North Carolina is home to at least a dozen types of creatures we call “jellyfish”, though at least half of them are not true marine jellyfish, but “comb jellyfish”.
Comb jellies don’t…
The Cary billionaire, whose net worth was reported by Forbes as $7.4 billion in 2021, is the founder and CEO of Epic Games (of which the game “Fortnite” was born) and the creator of Unreal Engine, a game development platform.
He is the wealthiest man in the state of North Carolina (bypassing another Cary billionaire, James Goodnight, this past April), and he ranks 608th wealthiest in the world.
More importantly, he’s a dedicated conservationist. Originally from Maryland, Sweeney has called North Carolina home since 1999, and he’s taken it upon himself to preserve our wilderness, buying up thousands of acres…
Known as the Tar Heel state, North Carolina is the 28th largest state in the U.S. by area, and ranks 9th highest in population. The diverse geographical features, changing seasons and steady economic growth make it one of the most desired locations to live in America, year after year.
Full of southern charm and rich history, unique architecture and eclectic dining, arts communities, and top-notch schools, the following places rank high in overall resident satisfaction.
A winner of the 2021 All-American City award, Morrisville is a suburb of Raleigh with a population of just under 30,000.

We woke up at sunrise on June 1st, and carried our coffee out to the back porch, ready to settle into our chairs and enjoy that special time of day. I find dawn and dusk to be so magical, and our remote property often gifts us with glimpses of wildlife
As the morning light overtook the gloom, and shapes were no longer just shadows, we got the surprise of a lifetime.
There was a tiny fawn nestled in the clover not 20 feet from the deck.
At first we thought it was a rabbit… just the tips of its ears…
Have you ever noticed women are discouraged from experiencing the wilderness alone? Certainly some situations would be a dangerous solo undertaking(traveling the Appalachian Trail, for example), but there are so many places a women can camp in a relatively safe environment, some with rangers making nightly rounds. Nowadays, cell phone towers are popping up everywhere, boosting the chance you’ll have a phone signal, in case of emergency. (Also, dogs are excellent camping companions, but that will be another article).
The benefits are life-changing, and I encourage all women to give it a go!
I’ve always been a child of nature…
